Boot a fresh device from USB

Got an old or broken computer (even one that won't boot)? Download the image, write it to a USB stick, and boot it — it wipes the disk and becomes a dedicated agent, end to end. This erases the whole machine.

1 · Download & write

Plug in a USB stick (10 GB+ — it will be erased), then write the image:

  • Mac: diskutil list to find the disk, then sudo dd if=opencode-companion-agent.img of=/dev/rdiskX bs=4m
  • Linux: sudo dd if=opencode-companion-agent.img of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress
  • Windows: use Rufus (DD image mode)

2 · Boot the target

Mac: plug in the USB, power on while holding Option (⌥) until the boot picker appears, choose EFI Boot.

3 · Walk away

Wipe → install → agent provisioning happens automatically; the device reports in on your phone.
